DRIVER ASSESSMENTS (MOTOR VEHICLE REPORT ANALYSIS)
After an accident has occurred is not the time to find out your driver has a long list of violations, or a suspended or revoked license. The negative publicity could be devastating to your organization. ESIP will obtain motor vehicle reports on all of your drivers and complete an audit of them indicating the drivers who have a history of violations or accidents. If any trends are noted, training in a specific driving area may be recommended.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT CLAIMS GUIDE
ESIP has developed this kit which contains explicit instructions of what to do at the scene, in the event of a vehicle accident. It also includes a form, which takes the member step by step to gather the information necessary to properly handle the resulting claim. The kit comes in an envelope big enough to also hold insurance identification cards and other pertinent vehicle paperwork.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT WORKSHEET
Determining the cause of a vehicle accident is a difficult task when done by persons who do not know that people involved. It becomes even more daunting when the investigator(s) know everyone involved. ESIP has developed a worksheet which may be completed without bias or emotion to provide a truly unbiased determination as to what happened. This is extremely important to prevent recurrence of the incident or a similar one.

EMERGENCY VEHICLE ACCIDENT CASE STUDIES
Experience is a great teacher. With this in mind, ESIP has developed a number of case studies of actual emergency vehicle accidents. The studies delve into the background of the incident, the occurrence itself, and the aftermath. These case studies are an excellent addition to your existing driver training, sparking lengthy and lively discussions.

SAFETY POSTERS
ESIP has a wide variety of safety posters dealing with topics important to the emergency services. Topics such as report writing, backing of apparatus, housekeeping, and bloodborne pathogens are covered in a manner which will remind all personnel of the importance of safety.

ESIP TECHNICAL BULLETINS
Information not found anywhere else is a great way to describe the ESIP Technical Bulletin series. These booklets describe many different subjects which, while important to the emergency services, have thus far been neglected. Current topics include protecting your organization’s funds from theft and how to conduct a sexual harassment investigation. Future topics will be on a wide variety of items such as report writing, air brakes and other items of interest to the emergency services.

EMPLOYEE/MEMBER ISSUE HOTLINE
ESIP’s Employee/Member Issue Hotline is designed to assist in making decisions regarding personnel issues. If you or your organization has questions regarding personnel issues such as sexual harassment, discrimination, suspension, or termination, you may call our toll free number and an attorney will call you back within two business days regarding legal concerns surrounding your questions before you take action.

ON-SITE SAFETY AUDITS
ESIP will send a trained loss control representative, with emergency service experience, to your facilities to survey various parts of the operation including station safety and fire prevention, driving procedures, safety guidelines, alcohol management, and others with an aspect towards risk management. The findings will be reviewed in detail at our corporate headquarters and a final consultative report with recommendations and suggestions will be sent to you.

VIDEO INVENTORY
ESIP Loss Control Specialists will video each piece of equipment both in and out of the compartments as a permanent inventory. This process will be repeated as necessitated by major changes. Copies of the video will be sent to you upon request, while the original is safely stored by ESIP.

HAZ-MAT POCKET INDEX GUIDES
These plastic, pocket-sized cards are designed to provide important haz-mat information literally at the emergency service worker’s fingertips. They are waterproof and indicate the D.O.T. hazard designations for health, flammability, and reactivity as well as the “NFPA Diamond” with definitions.

PASS REMINDER KIT
PASS devices are a great lifesaver for the fire service. Unfortunately, many firefighters have lost their lives, even though they had a PASS device because they never turned it on. ESIP has responded to this with a kit of reminders that are applied to the interior of the apparatus to remind the members to turn on their PASS before the get out at the fire scene. This simple reminder may help to save the life of one of your members.

ESIP’S “IN HOUSE” ALCOHOL CONTROL PROGRAM
This kit includes tent cards and posters for bars and rec. rooms as well as other handouts to help reduce the likelihood of drunk or impaired driving by members and guests. It also includes vital information on the ESIP Designated Driver Program. If alcohol is served in your building, this information is essential to your organization.

ESIP’S SPECIAL EVENT ALCOHOL CONTROL PROGRAM
If your organization plans to hold a special event or fund-raiser at which alcohol is to be served, this folder can play a integral part in making that event safe from alcohol misuse. It contains information on planning the event, serving alcohol, checking proof of age, and advertising. The kit also includes “Don’t Drink and Drive” safety posters and information of the ESIP Designated Driver Program.

SAMPLE SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY
ESIP can provide your organization with a sample sexual harassment policy, which meets existing laws and standards. In addition to the policy, there is also an investigative checklist that should be used when looking into any sexual harassment or discrimination complaints.

ESIP SAMPLE DRIVER SELECTION POLICY
After an emergency organization has reviewed the driving records of their members, it becomes difficult to decide who should be removed from driving duties as a result of a poor record. Through our vast emergency services experience, we here at ESIP, have identified characteristics of drivers who tend to be more at risk for potential accidents. In order to judge every driver equally, your organization may choose to set a policy regarding how to evaluate each driver’s record. This sample policy will assist in that task. You may feel free to encourage you to use it in full, or change it to suit your particular organization.

SAMPLE POLICY GUIDELINES
We at ESIP feel strongly that every emergency organization should have clear, concise policies, covering a variety of subjects in order to perform duties in the finest means possible. We also have the opinion that no one knows your organization better than you do. Therefore we have developed guidelines around which you may write your own policies. These guidelines include Emergency Vehicle Driving, Accident Reviews, Health and Safety Program, Statement of Policy for Safety and others. These guidelines are continually updated to coincide with changes in OSHA, NFPA, and other organizations impacting the fire and EMS services.

INTERNET LOSS CONTROL ASSISTANCE
Does your organization need an updated policy on alcohol or driver selection? They are available and may be downloaded from our website, www.esip.com. The loss control section of the website lists several policies and procedures which are important to the daily operations of an emergency service organization. Simply click on the topic of interest, pull it up, and download it in “Word” format. This then gives you the option to edit it to fit the needs of your organization.

NFPA CODE LIBRARY
What does NFPA 1500 really say? What about these lighting changes made in NFPA 1901? These are typical questions our Loss Control Department fields on a regular basis. We are able to provide answers to them, along with all of the information and changes occurring every 6 months in the NFPA standards. ESIP maintains the entire updated set of NFPA standards (The National Fire Codes) right in our offices and we are able to respond to questions and needs immediately.

BENEFICIARY COUNSELING PROGRAM
Grief and loss occur during times in our lives. We realize that losing someone close can sometimes cause people to experience painful, emotional problems. Though not all beneficiaries and families with group life insurance through ESIP may require counseling as an effect from a loss, some may benefit from talking with a professional counselor experienced in dealing with grief and loss. Through our life insurance underwriter, Reliance Standard Life and in cooperation with Health Management Systems of America, we offer a toll free counseling service to all beneficiaries who experience the loss of a loved one.

OSHA COMPLIANCE CHECKLIST
OSHA compliance seems to have confused many in the emergency services, without real reason. The rules have been developed to assist in the safety of all members. This checklist is a basic list designed to assist in beginning compliance with the federal standards and enhanced safety for all. After your organization is able to answer “yes” to all of the questions, you are on your way to compliance and with that, a reduction in the need for concern.

ROOF INSPECTION CHECKLIST
A damaged roof could result in a devastating loss to your emergency service operations. Water leakage could damage your equipment as well as personal property of your members, not to mention the possibility of a fire. In the most severe conditions, partial or total collapse could affect your services to the community. That is why periodic self-inspections of the roof are so important.

ESIP has developed a form to assist you in finding the most dangerous signs of potential roof problems. This simple checklist covers items such as roof covering, drains and roof mounted equipment. Completing this checklist on a regular basis could prevent both minor and devastating losses caused by otherwise unnoticed roof problems.

STATION SELF-INSPECTION FORM
Discovering a hazard before it becomes an accident should be the goal of everyone. This checklist form is designed for use on a regular basis by your designated safety officer or manager. The form points out the potential hazardous areas in a typical emergency service organization building as well as the surrounding grounds.

SLIP AND FALL CHECKLIST
Slips, trips and falls around your emergency service building happen for a number of reasons; weather conditions, cracked or uneven surfaces, poor lighting, obstructed passageways, and many others. Such falls could injure one of your members, creating a pain and suffering fir that person, the loss of an emergency service worker to the organization, and increased worker compensation costs. If the person falling is not a member, it could result in a lawsuit against the organization. This checklist may be used to regularly inspect areas prone to such incidents to assist in reducing the chances of someone sipping, tripping, or falling in or around your premises.

SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING TEMPLATE
Organization of the safety committee meetings is of utmost importance to see that the duties and functions of that committee are of the highest quality. This template will guide the committee through the task of organizing their meetings and serve as a basis for the meeting minutes. Upon use of the template, all meetings and minutes will be uniform, providing for a more efficient and reliable safety committee, one of the most important tasks in your organization’s health and safety program.
